Assistive Technology Trainer

Sight and Sound Technology are looking for a talented individual to join their expanding training department in Scotland. The vacancy is for an Assistive Technology Trainer in the West of Scotland with a salary of £25k to £30k, depending on experience

Position requirements:

Overall Purpose of role

To provide training in Assistive Technology (AT) software and hardware to disabled people, those with visual sensory impairment and those with specific learning difficulties (SpLDs) (including dyslexia, AD(H)D, Asperger’s, autism, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia) in both education and the work place. Following an initial consultation with the end user, training will be delivered according to their individual needs so as to fully benefit from the technology provided.

Main Duties and responsibilities

· Undertake initial short assessment in order to establish specific training requirements of the individual appropriate to their disability and environment.

· Train customers on how to use software or hardware recommended according to individual’s specific requirements as stated in needs assessment report.

· Ability to learn new assistive software and hardware as required.

· Deliver training according to Sight and Sound Technology’s quality guidelines and code of conduct to ensure training is delivered effectively.

· Attend any relevant training or meetings and have the ability to develop existing skills.

· Always be punctual with a flexible approach to working hours is required.

· Manage post training reports and other paperwork effectively, accurately and promptly.

· Maintain a high standard of presentation whilst representing Sight and Sound Technology.

· Confidentiality should be respected to agreed disclosure levels.

· Inform Sight and Sound Technology of any problems you are having that are either work related or effect your work, we can then help you come to a satisfactory conclusion or adapt your work to support your situation.

· Manage own schedule.

· To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by Sight and Sound Technology Limited.

Skills and Quality

· Experience in teaching or training in computer software and hardware.

· Experience in teaching or training in computer software and hardware in the educational setting and in the workplace on a 1:1 basis or to small groups.

· Experience of working with disabled people or people with visual impairment and / or specific learning differences.

· Experience in teaching or training on AT and hardware eg: Inspiration, Mind Manager Pro, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Texthelp Read & Write, typing tutors, various dictionaries, Dolphin, Zoomtext, JAWS, ClaroRead. Digital voice recorders, scanning pens, personal organisers and MS Office suite.

· Able to assess learner’s needs and devise an appropriate Individual Learning Plan (ILP).

· Excellent communication skills.

· Deliver training to suit learner’s individual needs.

· Able to learn new assistive software and hardware.

· Confidence in working independently with learners.

· Takes a logical approach to problem solving and pays close attention to detail.

· Applies quality standards to all tasks undertaken and ensures that nothing is overlooked.
